Database Administrator (DBA)

Location:

Marin (South Novato), California

The Database Administrator will be a member of our core development team, and be responsible for the performance optimization of the OLTP and OLAP databases embedded in our product, including working with the development team to optimize the queries used in our application. In addition, the DBA will generate and maintain all DDL for schema creation and data migration scripts for software upgrades. Finally, the DBA will administer and optimize the databases used internally for development and testing.

Expertise:

Critical expertise is the practice of database administration and performance tuning for high performance databases. The ideal candidate must be an expert with one of Oracle 10g/11g or MS SQL Server, and optionally familiar with both.

  • Database administration for enterprise OLTP databases including Oracle 10g/11g and/or MS SQL Server
  • Database performance tuning for high performance and high-availability applications
  • Database scripting for schema upgrades (DDL), ETL, data migration, backup and recovery
  • Administration of high-availability systems, including replication to disaster recovery sites
  • Knowledge of fault-tolerance and clustering (e.g. Oracle DataGuard, MS SQL Server clustering)
  • Knowledge of OLAP, data warehousing, reporting a big-plus
  • Linux system operation, hardware configuration, and scripting
  • Team oriented, flexible, positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to write clear technical and design documents

Experience:

  • BS in Computer Science with minimum 5 years of DBA experience
  • Experience with database administration procedures in financial institutions, or large enterprises, a big plus

Deployment Engineer

Location:

Marin (South Novato), California

ClairMail is looking for a key-player capable of enabling a world-wide game change in customer interaction, initially deployed to the Financial Industry. Our breakthrough technology optimizes any mobile phone for 2-way customer interaction – with no new mobile phone software required. Using any phone's existing messaging capabilities, ClairMail enables Financial Institutions to provide its customers with a comprehensive suite of convenient, secure and on-demand mobile banking and payment services. A new 2-way channel for customer interaction is a business boon for Partner prospects, just as the Internet evolved into a powerful way to connect with customers.

This position reports to the ClairMail Director of Deployment Engineering in the Products and Services Group, responsible for deployment of ClairMail services and software into Financial Institution environments.

The Deployment Engineer works closely with other members of the Products and Services Group and other functional groups within the Products and Services Group and ClairMail as a whole, the Deployment Engineer provides technical expertise in deploying the ClairMail appliance and software solution into banking and Financial Institution production environments along with special projects as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support changes to existing hardware and OS Linux infrastructure including patches, users, filesystems, and kernel parameters.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and OS problems including performance tuning.
  • Work with database and application teams to gather requirements for new projects and expansion to existing applications.
  • Deliver Linux servers for new applications and services.
  • Perform hardware and OS capacity planning for existing services and provide recommendations to application owners.
  • Support existing server infrastructure in an on-call capacity as part of a team rotation.
  • Provide basic to intermediate technical production/applications support and assistance for Financial Institutions – Financial Institutions Enterprise class customers.
  • Provides feedback and shapes production support procedures, policies and documentation where none exist or where they are stale and need to be updated.
  • Efficiently organizes and addresses multiple production issues, customer requests and inquiries from several sources, delegating when appropriate. The sources of which would be phone conversations, email, paging system, Instant Messenger chat, or face-to-face conversations.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be extremely familiar with computer networking and network protocols, such as FTP, telnet, HTTP(S), and SSH; proxies; and firewalls.
  • Familiar with Cisco VPN concentrators and Pix firewalls.
  • Familiar with basic load balancer technology. Understanding of F5 load balancers is a plus.
  • Excellent shell and perl scripting skills.
  • Must have a basic understanding of relational database concepts such as table joins, indexes, data types, etc.
  • Is self motivated; will work well autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Requires a working knowledge of trouble-shooting and problem resolution methodologies and also have the ability to develop, in a short period of time, intermediate working knowledge of company applications, production support policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work multiple tasks simultaneously to completion.
  • A strong dedication to World Class Customer Service, strong management skills and hands-on capabilities.
  • Ability to travel as required, approximately 10-20%

Experience:

  • Professional Services in large scale infrastructure deployments in the Financial industry. Background as a customer-facing consultant is highly desired
  • Experienced in designing, deploying, troubleshooting, and tuning Linux systems in a medium to large enterprise environment.
  • A Degree in the Computer Science, or Information Technology discipline.
  • 5-7 yrs experience as Red Hat /DebianLinux systems administrator – at least three in a senior role. Debian experience is a huge plus
  • 3+ years experience with Apache/Tomcat in a Unix/Linux environment
  • 3+ years working with SQL databases: Oracle 10i, MsSQL
  • 3+ years working with scripting languages: Perl and shell

Senior Software Architect

Location:

You will bring the insight gained working with customers to help us build a better and more successful product.

Job Responsibilities:

As a senior software architect with the solutions engineering group, you will play a very key role in the success of ClairMail by delivering successful solutions to satisfied customers. Your day to day responsibilities would include the following:

  • Identify and define client business requirements and objectives and create a solution design that meets client requirements while exemplifying industry and ClairMail best practices.
  • Responsible for all stages of the implementation lifecycle including design, estimation, and development.
  • Work on proof-of-concepting bleeding-edge product features and capabilities.
  • Interact with ClairMail partners and provide mentoring and subject-matter expertise.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the mobile messaging / content-delivery space.
  • As ClairMail’s primary interface to customer concerns and requirements, participate in new product features direction setting.
  • Management and mentoring of junior technical resources.

Job Qualifications:

  • You must be very client focused with excellent client facing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You must have experience developing and deploying enterprise-class Java software that emphasize scalability, security and manageability.
  • 7-10+ years in developing multi-tiered applications with the most recent 5+ years using J2EE technologies
  • Expert level knowledge of established and emerging software, including
    • XML Technologies - XSLT, DOM, SAX, JAXB
    • Service Oriented Architectures – web services, SOAP, REST
    • Java / J2EE and Web Technologies – HTML, JavaScript, Apache, Tomcat, Servlets, JSP
    • Frameworks / Technologies – Struts, Spring, Hibernate

  • Experience in design and optimization of databases with experience in multiple database platforms.

Solution Software Engineer

Location:

Marin (South Novato), California

The Solutions Software Engineer develops software to integrate the ClairMail solution into banking and Financial Institution production environments.

Job Responsibilities:

As a solutions software engineer you will deliver successful solutions to our clients. Your day to day responsibilities include:

  1. Timely delivery of customer solutions that meet and surpass customer expectations.
  2. Integration, of the ClairMail server with our customers' backend applications. This will typically involve the development of Java mid-tier logic and web services
  3. Performing acceptance tests with our customers to demonstrate the functionality and performance of the solution delivered
  4. Transfer knowledge to our customers on the solution, and code, that was implemented

Job Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in Enterprise Application Integration
  • Extensive knowledge of established and emerging software including
    • Service Oriented Architectures – web services, SOAP, REST
    • XML technologies – XSLT, DOM, SAX, JAXB
    • Java / J2EE and Web Technologies – HTML, JavaScript, Apache, Tomcat, Servlets, JSP
    • Spring framework

Tier 2 Technical Support Engineer

Location:

Job Summary:

Provides support for diagnosing, reproducing, and fixing complex technical issues related to ClairMail’s Mobile Banking deployments.

Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience in Linux operational environment - in Systems Administration or Technical Support Tier II role.

Candidate must have Linux System Administration experience, plus specific expertise in one or more of: Apache Tomcat, Scripting (Shell and Perl) or Relational Databases Administration (Oracle or PostgreSQL).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Resolve complex technical issues reported by ClairMail’s customers
  • Partner and work closely with Solutions and Engineering teams in driving customer technical issues to resolution.
  • Using monitoring systems detect & correct issues before customer is impacted.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems. Contribute new Wiki articles for use by entire support team
  • Administer monitoring systems. Developing new tools as required.
  • Develop and administer Support Lab environment
  • Some on-call time is required for customer problems after hours

Education and Experience

  • Candidate should possess a BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. Candidates without a degree but extensive relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years experience a Linux operational environment - in Systems Administration or Technical Support.
  • Candidate must have Linux System Administration experience, plus specific expertise in one or more of: Apache Tomcat, Scripting (Shell and Perl) or Relational Databases Administration (Oracle or PostgreSQL).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills are needed in order to work successfully with customers in high stress and or ambiguous situations.
  • Candidate should be highly-motivated, a self-learner, customer oriented, resourceful, enthusiastic and welcome a challenge.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how to utilize them in a customer facing environment.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
